Why It’s Never Too Early to Start Planning to Rent a Skip Bin

When you've got a major reconstruction programme planned for your home, you will have a lot to think about. You need to be in touch with suppliers, contractors and designers and will need to plan how the family is going to function, while all of this is going on. You realise that there's going to be a lot of debris to clear and know that you're going to have to hire a skip bin for this purpose but may not have given any thought to it. Before you get any closer to the project kickoff, what do you need to focus on here?

Dealing With Suppliers

Always work with a reliable and well-known supplier and give them full details of your needs so that they can advise you correctly. You will have to give them instructions so that it is placed correctly and will need to order the right type and size of bin for your specific work.

Placing Inside

Try to ensure that the skip bin is placed directly onto your property, if at all possible. Be sure that the delivery vehicle is able to back up to the area without any issues and look up to make sure that low hanging branches are not in the way. Get some wooden planks to construct a simple cross-frame in order to receive the skip. This will help to protect the surface, especially if it is grass or an asphalt driveway. If you don't, the tarmac could be damaged when the bin is picked up, or the grass underneath could die off otherwise.

You will need to maintain a certain element of control over the skip while it is on your property. Try to keep other people away from it with a closed gate, if possible, as otherwise they may throw random rubbish in there. If they dispose of waste engine oil in an unsealed container, you might get a bill from the rental company to clear it up.

Placing Outside

Sometimes, it is not possible to put the item on your own property and it has to be set up outside. The council has to be brought into the picture, to tell you exactly where you can put it and how much it's going to cost you for a permit. Usually, you'll have to ensure that footpaths and roadways are not completely obstructed and you may have to be creative in designing a location for this obstruction. Special tape has to be affixed to the perimeter, so that it can be clearly seen at night and in some cases, you may have to put additional lighting around the edges.

In particularly busy locations, or where your home is placed on a major thoroughfare, you might need quite a bit of additional time so that consultants can carry out their work. They may have to do a traffic survey, or get in touch with other residents for their input.

Get Started

As you can see, it's never too soon to get in touch with a skip bin supplier, so that they can advise you of your particular requirements and permit procedure, if any.
